Rainy season will not hamper flow of tournament
With just a few days to go before the official opening of the 21st Kashif & Shanghai Football Extravaganza, the 20 participating clubs are into the final phases of their preparations cognizant of the fact that the rainy season is with us.
Speaking with the Weather Experts, Kaieteur Sport was informed that rain above normal can be expected for the remainder of 2010 since the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is active.
A number of clubs have been utilizing facilities on the Linden Soesdyke Highway for training including sand pits as they seek to be in tip top shape ahead of what is anticipated to be a very competitive tournament. Conditioning will be a key factor for teams during this tournament.
Co-Director of the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Muhammad, has informed that this would not be the first time that rain will be a part of the tournament and they are preparing to deal with the imminent challenge the weather will pose.
“We have been through this before and are prepared to deal with it. We have commenced inspections at the various venues that games will be played at and are assessing and weighing our options. Of course closer to game days we will visit these venues again and see how things go from there.”
Games are scheduled for the Georgetown Football Club (City), Enmore (East Demerara), Uitvlugt (West Demerara), Blairmont Community Centre (West Coast Berbice), Mackenzie Sports Club (Linden) and Guyana’s number one Sports venue, the National Stadium, Providence.
