Broad Street ‘B’ survive thriller in penalty shootout

This year’s Guinness ‘Greatest in da Streets’ Football Competition ended on a fitting note with finalists Broad Street ‘B’ and Albouystown ‘A’ producing an thrilling contest that saw the former prevailing 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation time finished in a 1-1 stalemate, at the National Park on Saturday night.

This was after West Front Road came from behind to beat Alexander Village 3-2 in an exciting game that produced a winner on the stroke of full time compliments of a penalty.
The night’s action got underway with three exhibition matches, before the third place playoff got started and during that game the thousands of fans that flocked the arena were entertained by Jamaican artistes RDX, the X-Factor Dance Group among others in what many described as an event worthy of being staged annually.
The feature clash of the night saw the two best teams in the tournament battle for the top prize of $500,000 and they never failed to disappoint with Broad Street ‘B’ drawing first blood through the consistent Jimmy Gravesande, who lashed home from close range in the 10th minute of play.
Albouystown ‘A’ known as a team that never seems to panic competently absorbed the early pressure and eventually got the equaliser through their leading marksman Devon Small, levelled the scores four minutes later.
The whistle to signal the end of regulation time sounded with no addition to the score-line, leaving penalty kicks as the next order of play.
The rest is history.
Albouystown ‘A’ though received $250,000 for their efforts, while West Front Road collected $150,000 and Alexander Village $100,000.
All the teams took home trophies as well.
