The Port Mourant Turf club will be abuzz with activities come Sunday December 12, that’s the date when the club runs off their annual Pre-Christmas horserace meet. Over 55 horses have entered so far and with the entries closing yesterday, that number was set to swell significantly.
Most of the countries leading racehorses have already had their names inked in the participation column and an action packed day of racing is anticipated.
Seven races are carded for the day with close to $4M in cash and trophies on offer.
The track is one of the leading ones in the country and the Pre Christmas crowd is usually a bumper one and the organizers have all reasons to believe that this time the crowd will be bigger. And with the facilities having undergone massive rehabilitation work the comfort of the fans is guaranteed.
Banks DIH, among other sponsors, are already on board for the main line event. The events distance and first prize are as follows:
The feature B Class event has a first prize of $500,000 and will see the horses galloping over a distance of 1300M.
The other main event for 3yrs old horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies has $400,000 on offer for the winner and will see them battling over 1700M. The two year open will see the top two year olds galloping over a 1200M distance for a first prize of $300,000.
In the D and lower even there is also $300,000 available for the winner and

the distance will be 1000M. Another race which is expected to bring Turfites on their toes is the F and lower event which has a first prize of $240,000. The distance is 1400M.
The other races listed for the day’s programme are the ‘I’ class 1300M battle, with a first prize $150,000. The I3 maiden and J class race will be contested over a distance of 1000M with the winner collecting $120,000.
There will be trophies and other prizes for the top individual performers including Champion Jockey, stable and trainer compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the trophy stall Bourda market.
