Berbice strolled past Essequibo in the opening match of yesterday’s double header in the Carib/Pepsi Guyana Cricket Board Twenty 20 championship at the National Stadium, Providence.
Inserted first, Essequibo were throttled to 108 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. This was after an enterprising start by their openers, Norman Federicks (29) and Royan Federicks (34), which saw them to 72-0 in 13 overs.
However, only Sherwyn Murray with 12 reached double figures after the openers fell.
Narsingh Deonarine continued his excellent showing with the ball following his opening day hat-trick to claim 5 for 11 off his 4 overs. Davendra Bishoo supported with 3-16.
In response, Berbice marched to 109 for 2 in 17.3 overs to claim an easy victory. Richard Ramdeen 36 and Sewnarine Chattergoon 31 saw them to 71 before the first wicket fell in 8.5 overs. Deonarine 20 and Assad Fudadin 16 were the batsmen at the wicket to see Berbice home.
The Rest Team played Demerara in the second match yesterday.
