Just ahead of their departure for the Dominican Republic where they will seek to win the second-round (Group F) of the Caribbean Football Union World Under-17 qualifying competition, the ‘Junior Jaguars’ were yesterday boosted with a donation of multi vitamins/supplements by Seven Seas in collaboration with Geddes Grant.
At the Company’s R6 Ruimveldt, Georgetown Headquarters yesterday, Manager of the Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Department June-Ann Eastman handed over one month’s supply of multi vitamins/supplements and a set of Branded Polo Shirts to team Manager Carlos Bernard in the presence of some of the players.
Eastman in remarks to the players said she does not only want the players to be energized by the multi vitamins/supplements but she wants to see them coming out as group winners and advance to the CONCACAF finals next February.
“We want you to go there and come out on top of the opposition and we hope that the vitamins would help to make you better. On behalf of Seven Seas and Geddes Grant it’s a pleasure for us to sponsor you in this way and we want to wish you every success.” The Polo Shirts will be used by the team to travel.
Team Manager Carlos Bernard commented: “We would like to extend appreciation to Seven Seas/Geddes Grant for once again standing behind the National Under-17 team. The gesture is well appreciated, like we promised you before we will continue to grow from strength to strength and continue to do our best.”
The team will leave Guyana tomorrow for the Dominican Republic where they will engage the host nation in their first game on Wednesday. The other teams in this group are Barbados and Haiti.
The Junior Jaguars will square off with Haiti on Friday December 10 while they will match skills with Barbados on Sunday December 12 in their final group game.
The top two teams from this group will advance to the CONCACAF finals in Jamaica next February (14-27) along with Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba, which finished atop Group E.
The young Guyanese were encamped from November 26 ahead of this all important sojourn in the Dominican Republic and have been hard at training under Head Coach Sampson Gilbert.
Guyana won Group C of the qualifying competition held in Dominica in July; drew with the Netherlands Antilles 2-2, defeated Dominica 5-0 and Aruba 7-0
The 20-players encamped are Julius Griffith, Jamal Booker, Mark Walton, Emmitt Leacock, Dicquan Vancooten, Marlon Lashley, Randy Persaud, Jordon Robert, Rolex Martin, Pernel Schultz, Domini Garnet, Andrae Hector, Kaneil Caesar, Mohamed Ali, Khalil Chiza-Ricketts, Tyson Mc Naughton, Kerwyn Benjamin, Selwyn Williams, Sherwyn Lewis and Tariq Darhol.
Head Coach is Sampson Gilbert with Herbert McPherson and Andrew Hazel as his Assistants.
