Activity moves to West Coast Demerara
Organizing Committee Chairman of the GT&T 10/10 softball cricket tournament, Mr. Carmachand Rambarran reiterated his company’s commitment to the development of local sports even as he echoed an earlier promise made by CEO Mr. Yog Mahadeo to plug additional funds into next year’s edition of the tournament.
Mr. Rambarran was delivering brief remarks at the closing ceremony of the Essequibo leg of the GT&T 10/10 cricket awareness programme organized by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The organizing committee chairman also updated participants of the expectations of his company and other stakeholders for future tournaments. He further announced the introduction of a Female category where the winner will cart off lucrative prizes.
The tournament which had attracted participants and spectators from all areas on the Essequibo was completed last Sunday at the Anna Regina Community centre ground with a day of interaction that witnessed participation from large numbers of patrons from as far as
the Pomeroon. These spectators also benefited from numerous deals on offer while they were treated to lots of giveaways and exciting games that was the hallmark of GT&T 10/10 softball cricket tournament. This was GT&T’s way of giving back to the various communities that have supported their products and the tournament.
Patrons were also entertained with three exhibition matches; the first saw Cottonfield SC winning from Richmond Youths by 91 runs. Cottonfield SC won the toss and batted amassing 127 – 3 in 10 overs after former inter-county player Latchman Rohit hammered 51 off 27 balls. He was supported by Dinesh Joseph (23). Naresh Narine (2-22 from 2 overs) was the best bowler for Richmond Youths. The latter team was immediately in trouble losing their 4 frontline batsmen for only 12 runs. They never recovered from the early collapse and were eventually bundled out for 36-8 in 9 overs. Narine Doodnauth was the pick of the bowlers amassing 4-9 from 2 overs.
In the second match between the top female teams from Essequibo, Capoey Warriors defeated Cottonfield Lasses by 11 runs. Capoey
