Ann’s Grove and Netrockers added
East Demerara’s Ann’s Grove United and Upper Demerara’s Netrockers have been added to the list of team competing in the 21st Kashif & Shanghai Football tournament bringing the number of teams to 20, similar to the amount that participated in the 20th Anniversary tournament.
The two teams have been added based on a request made by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation to the Guyana Football Federation.
Ann’s Grove were contacted and readily accepted to replace Alpha United which had stated that they were not competing due to issues with the prize package. Subsequent intervention by the Governing Body saw Alpha United returning to the competition.
It was based on this development that the Organisers felt that it would not have been the best move to keep Ann’s Grove out of the competition, thus the request for two more teams, Netrockers being the other.
When contacted yesterday, President of Ann’s Grove United Trevor Waterman said they were very excited with the decision of the GFF based on the request by the K&S Organisation.
“We have been training hard since we were contacted to participate and we intend to better our performance of last year when we lost to Riddim Squad 2-1 in our opening game.”
Waterman disclosed that the club has the players who can deliver for them and among them are midfielders Kevon Barry and Oswald Duke, Defenders Dwayne Rogers and Levon Adams along with goalkeeper Travis Alleyne. Coaches Gary Mickle and Herbert McPherson will be combining efforts to make their side an unbeatable unit.
