– Colin Jones, sibling, others for court today
The Guyana Police Force has reportedly asked the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to help track down ex- GDF lieutenant George Lashley and Keith Ferrier, said to be key players in the alleged ‘terror’ attacks here.
Lashley is believed to be in the United States, while Ferrier, called ‘General’ is also believed to be overseas.
The ex-soldier is said to be around 60, and once resided at Lot 187 Freeman Street, East La Penitence.
Police believe that Lashley, Ferrier and Thierens were the brains behind the torching of the Health Ministry buildings, the arson attempt at the Supreme Court and the attacks on the Brickdam Police Station and the Ruimveldt Police Outpost.
Investigators have been told that Thierens had harboured a grudge against ranks from the two locations, since he alleged that he was beaten while in custody.
According to sources, the junior gang members like Colin Jones were only informed at the last moment about the plans.
Kaieteur News understands that Jones has told investigators that money was paid to a police rank who opened the lockups at the Providence Police Station to allow him and Thierens to escape.
He reportedly did not identify the rank.
Meanwhile, Colin Jones’s relatives are maintaining that they knew nothing about his activities.
This is despite revelations that his 17-year-old brother has admitted to links to the gang that is being held responsible for the ‘terrorist’ activities in July and November 2009.
Police had detained Jones’s mother, Allison Simpson, on Monday but released her late Tuesday evening, while holding on to his brother 17-year-old Jahfar Simpson who was arrested outside his home hours later.
Both siblings and a friend of theirs are to appear in court today on different charges and family members say that they have secured the services of an attorney to represent them.
Jones met his mother in person for the first time since his arrest last Friday in the mining town of Linden.
A source told this newspaper that the mother and her two sons sat together and while she tried to ascertain from them their involvement in the things they are being accused of, she obtained very little information.
A relative disclosed that Colin Jones did not respond to any of his mother’s queries. She said that all he would say to the ranks is, “Don’t hurt my mother and my brother.” She said that Simpson and Jahfar cried.
According to a relative, although the family is very closely knit, none of the brothers had revealed anything about their activities.
But this newspaper was reliably informed that investigators were able to establish a connection between Jones and his brother, who they are convinced, was in telephone contact with each other while the elder brother was a fugitive from justice.
The relative said that Jones’s feet appeared to be swollen apparently as a result of the shackles placed on them since his detention.
They also confirmed that he is suffering from a gunshot wound for which the police said he received treatment.
