Dear Editor,
The West Indies selectors have selected the One Day and T20 squads for the tour of Sri Lanka and again they have ignored one of the region’s finest cricketers, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
It can be seen clearly that there is no plan to have Sarwan in the West Indies team. It’s clearly a conspiracy to destroy a talented son of Guyana.
The reason given the last time for his non-selection was fitness and they the selectors said they wanted to see some more, but with Pakistan A team here and Sarwan not selected to play against them, it was very evident that Sarwan wasn’t part of the plan.
The West Indies Board needs to inform the Guyanese public what is the reason for the non selection of Sarwan, we want to know. We will not accept flimsy and hypocritical statements that we have to try and figure out. The time has come now for us Guyanese to stand up very strong and support Sarwan.
We have to start boycotting the matches organised by the West Indies Board from a spectator point of view and cooperate support. Our policy should be no Sarwan no match in Guyana. The Guyanese public should stand up now, no business should sponsor West Indies cricket until we have answers. It’s time we stand up for our cricketers. It’s time to take a stand.
I call on the Guyana Cricket Board the Sports Ministry and all stakeholders to stand up and defend this true son of the soil.
I am calling on all cricket lovers and supporters to demonstrate their support for Sarwan. Let’s protest until our voices are heard.
Sheikh Ahmad
