Appearing before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday at the Providence Magistrate’s Court was Antonio Jaisingh who was charged with murder.
It is alleged that Jaisingh on Saturday, November 27, last, murdered Randy Joseph at Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
When Magistrate Lovell read the charge to Jaisingh, she explained that he was not required to plead to the charge, since it was indictable.
However, Jaisingh said to the Magistrate, “I am guilty with an explanation”. He was once again reminded that he was not required or asked to plead.
Attorney-at-Law, Paul Fung-a-Fat, who appeared on behalf of the accused, stated that the deceased was 6 feet 7 inches in height and attacked his client with a cutlass. It was in self-defense that Jaisingh, who is a sickly person, reacted.
Fung-a-Fat continued in Jaisingh’s defense, explaining that the police saw all the injuries that were inflicted on his client but forced Jaisingh into making a statement without allowing him to have an attorney present or making a telephone call to an attorney.
Jaisingh was remanded and is to make his next court appearance on January 12, 2011.
