The recent grading examination held by the International Shotokan Karate Federation – Guyana at the YMCA Thomas Lands saw 8th Dan Master Frank Woon-A-Tai (co-Vice Chairman of the ISKF) promoting 8yr old Ayeisha Broomes to Shodan (1st degree black belt).
Grading was held on Thursday last and it was the third such exercise for the year held by ISKF – Guyana.
Woon-A-Tai examined 107 students at the YMCA Dojo who were drawn from the YMCA, New Amsterdam, Albion and Linden Dojos run by Senseis Amir Khouri, Elinton Moriah, Hazrat Ali, Nathalie Gibson and Mark Phang.
The results are as follows: 45promoted to yellow belt(8 kyu), 13 to orange belt (7 kyu), 15 to green belt (6 kyu),11 to purple belt (5 kyu), 9 to purple belt (4 kyu), 5 to brown belt (3 kyu), 3 to brown belt (2 kyu), 5 to brown belt (1 kyu) and 1 to black belt shodan.
Outstanding among the kyu grades were Tristal Bowman, Nikon Cheeks, Joseph Seguina, Jonathan Kissoon, Joshua Kissoon, Orville Critchlow and Ron Rambajan who skipped yellow belt to orange belt. Shaquan Sinclair, Annalisa Chan, Gwendoline Seeram who skipped orange belt to green belt and Karran Persaud who skipped 3kyu brown to 2kyu brown.
Master Woon-A-Tai said he was extremely pleased with the young students and suggested that their parents give them a special treat for their excellent performance.
