Late yesterday afternoon, the body of a man was found on the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The man, Jaikarran Mohabir called ‘Tucky’ was found lying in front of a shop, wearing a white shirt jack and navy blue dress pants, with a haversack next to his body.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the scene, the police were already there and conducting their investigation. Persons who gathered around the site said that the man, who they only new as “Tucky”, was “a regular” at the shop where he purchased a lot of alcohol.
According to persons in the area, ‘Tucky’ was never sober and would often have a bottle of “high wine” in his possession. Many of the residents stated that they knew nothing of the dead man and could not assist in his name or place of abode.
Upon further enquiries, Kaieteur News was able to locate a friend of ‘Tucky’ who revealed that the now dead man would stay with him on many days. When asked about ‘Tucky’s’ whereabouts, the friend and his family stated that ‘Tucky’ left the day before, telling them that he was going to a bar-b-que (at the shop he was found lying in front of), but he did not return.
The friend contacted the dead man’s daughter, Devika, who resides in Mon Repos and told her that her father had passed away. Devika told this newspaper that her father was a very kind hearted and “good” man. But he was always an alcoholic and this is what led to his “destruction”.
According to his wife, Narpattie Mohabir, her husband was 71 years of age and had been a gardener for a long time. He was always consuming alcohol since she met him, and this led to their separation for the past 25 years she told this newspaper.
She told Kaieteur News that ‘Tucky’ was the father of two sons and one daughter, with a brother living in Bel Air, but most of the time he was “on the road”, not living with any of his family members (because of his addiction to alcohol).
