Acting on information received, officials from the Guyana Revenue Authority in Lethem on Tuesday last impounded a car that was fitted with Brazilian licence plates.
Reports out of the area stated that for some time now the car has been on the radar since residents had raised suspicions about the vehicle. This newspaper was told that the car would only be seen traversing the Lethem area at nights.
Sometime around 12:05 hours on Tuesday, the car was discovered about two miles from the Takutu Bridge on the Guyana side of the border with Brazil.
This newspaper was told that the car is believed to have been stolen since its right side front window is broken. The keys for the vehicle were found hidden under a mat in the car. The GRA is intensifying its investigation into the matter.
