After being forced to move the outdoor tournament to inside the National Gymnasium because of inclement weather, the Pepsi ‘Refresh Your World’ basketball tournament commenced with wins for Qualfon and hosts, Pepsi Sonics Basketball Club yesterday.
Qualfon defeated Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 49-43 in a nail-biting encounter with Quacy Lindo putting up 18 points and Dale Smith 10 points in the game. Dancil Plak was the leading scorer for the Defence Force squad with 11 points.
In the other major game yesterday, Pepsi outclassed the visiting Kwakwani team with a 66-40 points win with Kerwin Jackson scoring 10 points and Dwight Grey adding 12 points for Pepsi in the game.
National junior player, Dave Plass led for Kwakwani with 15 points while Sheldon Thomas had 10 points. The junior boys and girls games were played earlier in the exhibition competition that continues today at the same venue from 10:00hrs.
