Twenty-five-year-old Alistair Hall of 72 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry, on Wednesday, last, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, to answer charges of assault causing bodily harm and possession of narcotics.
It is alleged that on November 9, last, the accused unlawfully and maliciously wounded Anthony Taitt.
It is also alleged that November 22; last, the defendant had in his possession 13 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant, who was represented by attorney at law Keavon Bess, pleaded not guilty to the charges after the Administrative Justice Act (AJA) was applied.
The lawyer, in a bail application, told the court that his client has an unblemished record. He said that his client is unaware of the allegations made by Taitt.
He added that his client contended that the illegal substance was found two lots away from his house.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford had no objections to bail, but he informed the court that the defendant and Taitt have been friends for the past two years. Telford said that Taitt went to the home of the defendant to check on a bicycle, when an argument ensued.
He said that the defendant picked up a bottle and “lashed” Taitt on the neck, causing the man to sustain injuries that required treatment at a hospital.
The prosecutor said that on Monday, last, the police went to the home of the defendant, where they conducted a search in his presence and found the drugs.
The Magistrate granted $50,000 bail for the narcotics charge and $70,000 bail for the assault charge.
