Fourteen-year-old Derick Lalsa Junior hit a magnificent 181 to highlight the latest action in the Berbice/Mahaicony zone of the Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission/Guyana Cricket Board Secondary School 40-over Under-15 Cricket Competition.
Lalsa, of Rosignol Secondary pulverized the Fort Wellington Secondary bowlers by smashing 19 fours and 10 sixes in his pugnacious century and scoring 95 of the 96 runs in an amazing last wicket partnership as his school piled up 235 in 34-2 overs.
Fort Wellington in reply slumped from 60-2 to 83 all out in 21.4 overs, giving Rosignol Secondary an amphaitic152-run victory.
Lalsa joined Ameer Ahmad at 2-1 but Ahmad fell for a duck to leave the score on 2-3. Lalsa and Parmanand Ramdhan added 41 for the 3rd wicket before the latter fell for 6 at 44-3.
Linden Sears and Kurt Griffith picked up two quick wickets as Rosignol Secondary slipped to 56-7 and Fort Wellington Secondary in command.
But Lalsa, the son of prominent West Berbice cricketing personality Derick Lalsa Snr., had other ideas and added 83 for the 8th wicket in 13 overs with Pooran Singh before Pooran departed at 139-9 with Lalsa on 101.
But the Fort Wellington Secondary bowlers were in for a shock as Lalsa unleashed a vicious onslaught and got support from last man Jerrel Walters (1) as they put together 96 runs in 12 overs before Lalsa was the last out. Sears took 3-26 and Griffith 3-42.
When Fort Wellington responded Trevor Jhingoree (19) and Charran Dharprasad added 33 for the first wicket in 5.2 overs before Dellon Nelson picked up two quick wickets to leave the score on 33-2.
Jhingoree and Sears added 27 for the 3rd wicket before medium pacer Parmanand Ramdhan (4-11 from 4.4 overs) and Lalsa (3-10) who returned with his leg-spin, engineered a dramatic collapse as the opposition slumped from 60-2 to 83 all out. Dellon Nelson supported with 2-13.
