Kascia Beaton crowned Ms. Body Beautiful
The Guyana Defense Force Auditorium at Base Camp Ayanganna was packed to capacity and spectators were treated to an entertaining evening of muscle flexing and guest posing at the Guyana Defense Force’ Novices Bodybuilding Competition held on Tuesday last under the theme “Restoring Physical Image and Capability Through Bodybuilding”.
Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best after declaring the competition open sat through the entire proceedings to see the energetic Victor Logan declared Mr. GDF 2010 emerging as the champ from among three other category winners.
Logan, who had earlier won the Over 165 category as well as the trophy for the best routine of the night, took the title ahead of Andy Rogers who copped the Lightweight category, Kester Alli the top shot in the Bantamweight division and Oswald Goodrich who was the best Welterweight competitor on the night.
The female competitors graced the stage once for the Ms. Body Beautiful segment and Best legs competition combined. Kascia Beaton did not leave any room for her rivals to sneak in as she took both top trophies.
Daeseia Junor eased her way to the runner-up position; Shameeka Nestor, Joyann Carmichael and Natasha Pierre placing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.
At intervals during the competition, fans and special invitees had the opportunity of seeing on stage reigning Mr. and Ms. Guyana Clint Duke and Alicia Fortune. Also guest posing were Guyana’s top Lightweight athlete and CAC silver medalist Marlon Bennett and back to back (2009/2010) Heavyweight king Oswin Jones.
Apart from the four competition categories, an Intermediate category was also contested which was won by Devon Davis. Michael Simon placed second and Sherlock Rigby third.
Logan had earlier triumphed in the over 165 category, gaining the judges nod in the three way contest. Andrew Cush occupied 2nd place with N. Rodney settling for third.
Goodrich toppled his rivals in the Welterweight contest, Leon Tucker and Dillon Barros adjudged second and third.
Bantamweight champion Kester Alli turned back the challenges of Collis Parkinson, Rayon Waltz and Ryan Jeffers.
In declaring the competition open, Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best reminded the athletes and audience of the importance of bodybuilding which he said goes beyond our physical bodies.
“It’s a demonstration of what good health is all about. We need to keep healthy for the GDF and generally by eating well, exercising so that we will live long productive lives.” The top athletes received trophies and cash incentives while the winners of the novelty competitions which included military sits-ups, won by Seon Prince, were also rewarded. The category winners including Beaton were all presented with hampers compliments of Fitness Express. (Franklin Wilson)
