Three men escaped in the wee hours of Thursday after a failed robbery at R.M Auto Sales, located at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
According to the proprietor, he lives at his business establishment. Upon descending into his yard to carry his daughter to school, he noticed that his gate that he had padlocked was open and that the bonnet of one of his unregistered Tundras was opened.
The businessman said that at first glance he thought that someone might have stolen the battery for the Tundra. Further inspection revealed that a black jersey had been thrown over the lens of security camera..
He also noticed that the middle rear window of the Tundra was smashed, the steering lock was broken and the anti-theft system was also disarmed. The ignition was also destroyed in an attempt to force start the vehicle. “The Tundra had no alarm.”
One relative of the businessman said that he received a phone call shortly after 05:00 hours from his cousin who was sheltering from the rain in front of the business premises. “They would have gotten through, but they (robbers) saw him standing in front the opened gate and they jump over the fence and gone…The gate was opened to just drive away with the vehicle.”
Residents in the area later said that three persons were seen in the yard in the wee hours of Thursday morning when the incident occurred. They said that it appeared as if the men were working on the vehicle instead of stealing it. The upshot was that they paid no serious attention.
The proprietor said he has lodged a formal complaint with the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
