Shemaine Campbelle rewarded
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club’s Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17, Pepsi Under-19 and Metro Female Teams on Saturday last donated sporting equipment to the Cumberland Nursery School and the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School valued some $45,000. The teams also honoured West Indies female cricketer Shemaine Campbelle for her outstanding performances.
The presentations were done under the teams personal development programme.
Cumberland Nursery School donation is aimed at assisting the students to develop a love for sports from an early age while the J.C. Chandisingh School on request received a pair of volleyball nets.
The young cricketers also honored Campbell for being a positive role model to them and for the role she is playing in keeping the flag of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club flying proudly by her performances for Guyana and the West Indies.
Campbelle, who has returned to school at the age of 18 years to write four CSEC subjects, was presented with $10,000 to assist her to pay for the exams.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster praised the cricket teams for the role they are playing in the lives of youths while hailing them as youths with a mission.
He informed that the Club’s seven cricket teams in 2010 have completed over 60 projects under their Personal Development Programme at the cost of over $1.5M. The young cricketers were urged to continue the work they are doing to assist others as the best feeling in the world is achieved when serving those less fortunate.
He also urged the representatives of the schools to take care of the equipment and to use them for the intended purpose of promoting sports as an important part of a child’s development. Foster had special words of congratulation for Campbelle’s decision to return to school to fulfill her aspiration of securing an educational background.
He pledged the Clubs’ full support to every member who wishes to expand and develop their knowledge.
Campbelle in response expressed gratitude and promised to make them proud when her exams results come out next year. The national female captain stated that the best decision she has ever made was to become a member of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club as it was not just a club but also an extended family that look out and after each other.
