The police in Berbice at the Number 62 Impact patrol base on Thursday around 16:30 hrs nabbed three men, including a French Guiana national, Nigel Misidgan, 30, and a 16-year-old in a car.
It is understood that the men were in a white AT192 Toyota Carina Motor car, which was proceeding at a fast rate in Corriverton. The cops stop and searched the vehicle and during the search they unearthed a .22 Rossi revolver and two live rounds, which were concealed in a haversack owned by one of the occupants and hidden among some clothes.
The men were arrested and taken into custody.
Yesterday, Misidgan, of Ali Demerara St Lauren, French Guiana was charged with possession of arms without being in possession of a valid licence, being in possession of ammunition without being in possession of a valid licence, and illegal entry into Guyana. He appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Krisendat Persaud and pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded to prison and the matter transferred to the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court for hearing on December 8, next.
The man, it is understood told investigators that at the time he was heading home and had hired the car to take him to one of the backtrack stellings at Springlands, Upper Corentyne.
He stated that he had entered Guyana through the same back track route and was in the country for some time.
The man also revealed that during his stay in Guyana he was stopping at a residence in Canje.
The other two men and the car are still in custody and are reportedly from the Canje area. The teen reportedly attends a secondary school in New Amsterdam.
The sleuths are looking at all angles of the matter especially due to the fact that the Canje area had experienced a series of robberies recently.
