Around 10:00 hrs on Friday a man was stopped on the Berbice River Bridge while he was heading towards East Berbice.
Since it is an offence to walk on the Bridge, he was stopped by security and questioned. It turned out that the man could not speak English. He was taken into custody at the Blairmont Police station.
Through an interpreter the man stated that he is from Chile. He stated that he had walked from Venezuela and his intended destination was Suriname.
The 32-year-old man said that he does not have any documents on him having lost them whilst in Colombia.
However the police have detained him and are making the necessary background checks. Efforts will also be made to contact INTERPOL as the police expand their investigations to ascertain the man wears about.
