The family of the late Shadow Finance Minister, Winston Shripal Murray, has mandated a Committee to oversee the preparations for the funeral, which is likely to be held at the St George’s Cathedral on Monday before burial at Leguan.
Murray was born on Leguan, an island in the Essequibo River.
Russel Lancaster heads the Committee, named the Protocol Committee.
The other committee members include Dr. Richard Van West Charles, Kads Khan, Malcolm Parris, Ronald Austin, Aubrey Norton, Priest Mwanza, Gillian Burton and Eugene Gilbert. The Committee has been meeting continuously for the past 48 hours and has been finalising the details of the funeral programme.
This newspaper understands that the family is awaiting the arrival of relatives from overseas.
Murray collapsed nearly three weeks ago and suffered brain hemorrhage and subsequently succumbed
He was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Since he was declared “brain dead” by Jamaica-based neurosurgeon Dr. Ivor Crandon, there were questions about the removal of the life support system to which he was attached, but that became unnecessary when Murray stopped breathing on his own.
Since his death there have been a plethora of tributes being showered on Murray who was one of the more respected Parliamentarians/Politicians in Guyana.
