Dear Editor,
Very recently some very revealing and interesting events have been happening off the football field and I felt that I must have my say.
The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation as is customary had press briefings, sponsors’ presentations and team briefing. As is the norm the many usual sponsors revealed their intention to be a part of the 21st edition of the K&S tournament.
Behold, the goodly gentleman Mr. Odinga Lumumba made some press statements which is bordering on libel.
This same gentleman was the President of the GFA formerly GFL and based on my knowledge that body incurred debts. Let the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) come forward and state what is owed to them. Can the referees’ body also give information on monies owed them? The Diocese Youth Centre, the Trophy Stall, Match Commissioner Rawle Adams, all will tell interesting stories.
Mr. Lumumba by his admission is in receipt of thousands of US dollars from a foreign businessman to run Alpha United Football Club and yet I am told several players are yet to collect their monthly stipend (salary) that was agreed to be paid to them.
Could he disclose what happens when his club wins cash?
Have a chat with any one of the players and they can tell you of the harrowing experience they have to endure to collect what is due to them. Have you noticed that he has a depleted squad, sometimes when the team plays the bench has 2, 3 or 4 reserves. Their last Super League game in Berbice saw 11 players travelling to play Rosignol United.
My question is Mr. Editor, Mr. Lumumba simply jealous of the K&S organisation’s ability to do things right? Every time this guy organizes anything there always seem to be controversy.
My son plays football and I have a keen interest in the game. I’ve never heard in their 21 years of existence, the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation in any hullabaloo.
Mr Lumumba, please leave these guys alone, they are making a great contribution to the development of football in Guyana and our Government supports it.
What Mr. Lumumba should be doing is lobbying for the Government to build a National All Weather Football Stadium.
