Guyana has in recent weeks been ravaged by thunderstorms resulting in damage to structures and disrupting services and the Integrated Financial Management and Accounting System at the Ministry of Finance.
This was disclosed by head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon yesterday. He said that one such storm rendered the computerized system unserviceable.
According to Dr Luncheon this has caused a loss of connectivity with the various budget agencies.
He said that temporary measures have been put in place for processing but that the various budget agencies have to physically submit their records to the Ministry of Finance.
Dr Luncheon said that the central processing will be affected for not more than 48 hours.
IFMAS is responsible for ledgers and electronic budgeting and is expected to reduce the use of cash as well as processing time, enhance advance planning and increase accountability of public officers for transactions.
