Police in ‘G’ division, Region Two have commenced activities leading up to the festive season. There are policing patrols at the markets and various places since the exercise began on November 15.
Newly appointed Commander of ‘G’ Division, Brian Joseph, told Kaieteur News that police activities within the division will be intensified to provide for crime control and also for the reduction of incidents of crime and traffic accidents, through that period.
Joseph stressed that his division will be subdivided into four sectors.
One sector will be from Charity to Queenstown, another from La-Union to Supenaam, one would be Wakenaam and Islands, and the fourth, Leguan and Islands.
The primary intention, Joseph noted, is to promote and maintain within the citizenry a sense of security for person and property at all material times.
“The prominence of police presence within the various locations is to also reduce incidents of crime and sustain prevention. Detectives, as far practicable, would be making for safer communities.” he stressed.
Joseph also said that an active police presence would ensure safe roadways for all categories of road user.
According to Joseph, primary places of interest are the Supenaam speedboat landing, Charity Wharf, Adventure Stelling, Wakenaam Ferry, Leguan stelling, all market locations throughout the coast, and minibus and hire car parks.
Other areas include the National Insurance Scheme, Anna Regina, all post offices, banks and shopping centers throughout the coast and islands.
Joseph explained that all markets would be under surveillance by plainclothes ranks during the various shopping days.
Policemen some in plain clothes, who will be also performing duties as spotters, Joseph said will monitor the other areas.
The head of “G’ Division said that the quick reaction unit together with the traffic department will also be performing with a high degree of visibility, using motorcycles, cars and pick-ups, accompanied by foot patrols.
Vehicles patrols will be conducted around the clock and based upon the intelligence gathered, an analysis and further operations would be conducted, Joseph said.
The police will be making use of the following strategies, patrols’, vehicles, foot, and bicycle, Marine patrols, by day, through out the Pomeroon and Essequibo Rivers.
Road blocks, searches, intelligence gathering networking and information sharing with head quarters and sisters operations will be also indulged Joseph assured.
Commander Joseph said that a popular businessman has donated two cell phones, which will be used in the operations room.
