Dear Editor,
Allow me to join others in their tribute towards the elegant and efficient Honourable Danny Doobay, who leaves very big shoes to fill in his former capacity of Guyana Consulate General in Toronto. The fact that he held the Guyanese community head high within his 12 years of rare and astute dedication, with profound love for Guyanese culture and religions, is indeed a hallmark of his worthiness. But I would dearly like to add that it’s with the stubborn love his wife has demonstrated unconditionally by his side, which has made the community benefitted immensely.
I remember Danny’s respect and support for our Pakaraima Writers group in Toronto, that recently celebrated its fifth year, and I cannot let him go without saying a sincere thank you! He opened his office for us and cautioned that this should not be another effort in the wind!
Today, like his many other projects, he can safely say it has not been in vain. Through this Association many writers are now published and several times too! Mostly though is his commitment towards the religious communities. Knowing how deeply embedded this is in the Guyanese psyche, his role as consulate has been a blessing and pride.
Mr. Doobay will ensure he attends everyone’s function, regardless of time constraints, and still deliver remarks appropriate and meaningful, regardless of the religious occasion. In any leadership detractors exist and he has shown that that only makes you stronger for the job ahead.
We hope the best for him and pray that wherever he and his wonderful family go, success coupled with a sense of community and inclusivity, will be their flag!
