The 2009 New Building Society Berbice Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition resumed recently with No. 70 Lalman, Tain, Seawell, Fyrish and Tamarind Root winning their latest matches to top their respective zones and advance to the last 16 play-offs.
After No. 65 made 190 against No. 70 Lalman in Zone N with offspinner Bheem Singh taking 3-12, Romel Dowlat hit 78 not out, Kumar Mathura 65 and Bheem Singh 50 not out to steer No. 70 to a comfortable 6-wicket victory with 14 overs to spare.
In Zone G, medium pacer Amit Ramroop took 5-20 and offspinner Aslam Ally 5-15 for Seawell in their 5-wicket win over Gangaram Strykers.
Kendall’s Union scored 202 and then had Fyrish in a shaky position at 64-4 before Trevor Sinclair (71) and Karamchand Shivdyal (56) weathered the storm and put on 139 for the 5th wicket to see Fyrish home.
Tamarind Root’s new ball bowlers Satesh Dwarka (4-23) and Mahendra Ramdihal (4-22) helped dismiss Jai Hind for 102. Ramdihal then opened the batting for Tamarind Root and scored 53 to assist his team to a 7-wicket win Zone I.
In Zone J, Tain registered an easy 9-wicket win over Nigg Intruders. Other batsmen scoring half centuries were Guyana Under-19 batsman Harrinarine Chattergoon of Albion Community Centre and Anil Chattergoon of Tain Block Four.

At Seawell, Seawell beat Gangaram Strykers by 5 wickets. Gangaram Strykers 83 in 21.3 overs with Aslam Ally 5 for 15, Amit Ramroop 5 for 20. Seawell 86 for 5 in 18.3 overs with Imran Hoosein 3 for 23.
At Fyrish, Fyrish beat Kendall’s Union by 6 wickets. Kendall’s Union 202 in 30.5 overs with Michael Butcher 39, Stephen Ramlochan 29, Gavin Hitnarine 28, Safraz Khan 3 for 38, Safraz Hussain 3 for 46, Javid Mohamed 2 for 36, Munilall Shivdyal 2 for 39. Fyrish 203 for 4 in 21.2 overs with Trevor Sinclair 71 N.O, Karamchand Shivdyal 56.
At Hampshire, Tamarind Root beat Jai Hind by 7 wickets. Jai Hind 102 in 29 overs with Satesh Dwarka 4 for 23, Mahendra Ramdihal 4 for 22. Tamarind Root 103 for 3 in 9.2 overs with Mahendra Ramdihal 53.
At Tain, Tain beat Nigg Intruders by 9 wickets. Nigg Intruders 74 in 21 overs with Charran Arjune 3 for 11, M. Maynard 3 for 33. Tain 75 for 1 in 10.4 overs with Balram Singh 29.
At Hampshire, Albion Community Centre beat Belvedere Superstar by 126 runs. Albion Community Centre 224 in 38.3 overs with Harrinarine Chattergoon 69, Mahesh Basdeo 32, Arif Ishak 4 for 24. Belvedere Superstar 98 in 22.3 overs with Gudakesh Motie 4 for 27.
At Tain Block Four, Tain Block Four beat Silver Star by 9 wickets. Silver Star 122 in 40 overs with James Balkarran 3 for 17. Tain Block Four 125 for 1 in 13.3 overs with Anil Chattergoon 55 N.O, Permaul Muthan 39 N.O.
