On Monday, last, acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry remanded Leroy Munro who is charged with the offences of unlawful assault and threatening language. The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty.
The court was told that on November 17, last, the defendant, who lives with Alexis Munro, dealt her several cuffs to her face at their lot 50 Barima Avenue, Bel Air Park home.
It is alleged that on the same day, Munroe threatened to kill his wife, if she were to contact the police.
Alexis Munro, however, managed to visit the police station where she reported the matter, which led to the arrest and charge of her husband.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail on the grounds of ‘violence against women’. He also requested that the accused be remanded.
His request was granted and Leroy Munro will make his second court appearance today.
And also appearing before Magistrate Priya Beharry was repeat larceny offender, Jason Prince, 18, of Bent Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, who was accused of breaking into Selica Thomson’s house and stealing several articles. He was unrepresented. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Prosecutor Stephen Telford, the defendant allegedly committed the offences on November 5 and again on November 19, after Selica Thompson had secured her home and had gone out.
It was upon her return that she noticed that her digital video disc player and several digital video discs (DVDs) were missing. The matter was reported and Prince was arrested.
The police also stated that persons in the area saw the defendant exiting Thompson’s house with the items.
The prosecutor told the magistrate that Prince should be remanded to prison, taking into consideration the number of times he had committed the same offence.
Magistrate Beharry then remanded Prince until today.
