Dear Editor,
I thank Mr. Sasenarine Singh for his last letter responding to this writer as the ‘Phantom of the Regime’.
It should be noted from the onset that for one’s letter to be published in the Kaieteur News, the staff has to confirm that individual’s identity.
It is then up to the writer to request that his name be published, attach a pen name or withhold his identity.
The naivety of the AFC politician is exposed as he is clearly eager to debate personalities rather than the issues at hand. He admittedly is incapable of engaging his brain outside of this context.
As a politician who is openly campaigning for office one must always be prepared to readily address issues and/or criticisms both from sources real and perceived to show their mettle; if you cannot convince the electorate that you are competent then obviously the only seat you could earn in the National Assembly is that found in the washroom.
The political hopeful is quick to descend to crude name calling the first instance he is challenged to debate his accusations in the letter columns and in this particular case, it was he who first took exception to my thoughts on the sugar industry.
This self proclaimed principled intellectual in his vile ranting clearly exposes the true nature of his personality.
Mr. Singh should have been enlightened enough to understand that this is unbecoming of any aspiring politician as its exposes his vulnerable emotional state and low self esteem which leads to insecurities.
In politics one has to be resilient and firm, yet approachable and grounded and not one quick to descend to childish compositions the first sign of a challenge.
It is clear from our discourse thus far that the AFC member is ill prepared for any comprehensive debate on the sugar industry which is my focus.
In both his elementary attempts to respond, Mr. Singh labels my contributions pathetic yet only seems capable of lamenting on the issues at the Skeldon Factory.
He then seeks to deflect embarrassment by suddenly shifting that responsibility to his AFC leader, who according to him will lead the advocacy to enlighten sugar workers.
Well then what was Mr. Singh doing all along in the letter pages and in his most recent letter with a direct appeal to sugar workers? It is now clear as to who is hiding under whose skirt!
The overseas-based politician is so confused that he accuses and berates this writer for allegedly saying that he ‘blamed sugar workers for the current state of the industry’. I encourage him to reread my initial response as nowhere did I make such a reference.
This writer however, has clearly indicated that if sugar workers resort to strike action as the first option when an issue arises or whenever they do not get their way on a particular issue, ultimately it will contribute to further destabilize an already ailing industry. No sugar production, no revenue! It does not take a genius to decipher that.
While I will not repeat the many challenges that have brought us to where we are today in the industry and what is being done to overcome them, it was interesting to read in one of the dailies on Sunday that no less than the President of GAWU cited the weather as a significant constraint affecting production for the remainder of the crop.
I recall not too long ago when the Corporation had highlighted this very same issue; it was easily shot down as excuses for incompetence by the union.
Mr. Editor, even the troubled Mr. Sasenarine Singh was up in arms against the position taken by the Corporation in his traditional grade 1 lectures through the letter pages.
I wonder what his position might be now regarding the effects of unpredictable weather on sugar production based on the admission of the union.
