Heavy rain has forced the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to call off the final round of the 4-team senior 4-day cricket competition after the 2nd round was badly affected by the weather.
Demerara, who beat Essequibo inside two days in their first round clash in Essequibo had their 2nd round game against the Rest team abandoned without a ball being bowled at the DCC ground in the city leaving them with 16 points going into the scheduled final round against five-times defending champions Berbice.
Berbice took 6 points from their first round draw against the Rest team at Blairmont and were 30 away from first innings points against cellar dwellers Essequibo in Berbice before the last three days of that contest was washed out leaving both teams with 4 points.
Berbice, who has dominated senior 4-day cricket in recent times, finished on 10 points and had to beat Demerara outright to reclaim their title. Rain in the end had the final say and provided Demerara with championship honours for the first time since they won in 2004.
The Rest team finished on 7 points while rain provided Essequibo with their points (4) as the competition, which is being used to select the Guyana team for the 2011 Regional First-Class competition which starts next February, ended prematurely due to the weather.
