Sixty-six year old Bibi Ahkala Ahmad of 552 New Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) is alleging that she paid approximately $1.5M to another woman for a property in Georgetown—only to be told over one year later the property had been sold to someone else.
Ahmad stated that on October 12, 2009 she signed an agreement with the woman for the purchase of the city property, which was being sold for approximately $6M. She then paid down the $1.5M upon signing the documents.
The pensioner explained that she told the owner that she would take a little while to pay the remainder, since she obtained a small amount of money from her pension funds.
Ahmad added that when she found out a short while after signing the documents, that the property was sold to someone else, she approached the property owner for a refund of her $1.5M, part of which she had borrowed from relatives to help pay for the land.
According to Ahmad, the woman refused to refund her.
She took the matter to court and won the case. But although the woman was ordered to repay Ahmad, to date, this has reportedly not been done.
Ahmad showed Kaieteur News the court documents which verified that she was to be refunded.
