There is only one way that the public can know if an important embassy has cancelled a visa. If the revocation is done before the person is requested to present him/herself to the consular section of the embassy, a notice goes out to all airlines to stop them from processing a flight for that person. Quite a number of persons then have access to the visa recall and can leak the information to the press.
If the person visits the embassy and the visa is nullified, then it is almost impossible for the press to know that. The embassies in Guyana do not comment on visa revocation and visa denial. They do not distribute press releases on the issue. To date, there are no details available from the US Embassy or the Government of Guyana on the refusal of the embassy to grant Clement Rohee, then Minister of International Trade, a visitor’s visa. For six months Mr. Rohee could not get a stamp to allow him to enter the US.
At the time of writing, I have been informed that the policy of the US Embassy is to award him only single entry and not multi-entry.
I was told of the reason years ago by an Embassy staffer under the condition that I cannot publicly publish the content of that decision. It is up to Rohee to explain his visa predicament to PPP supporters.
These fans of the PPP have to be damn fools not to want to know why. It becomes an exigent topic for potential PPP voters in the light of Rohee’s famous declaration that he does not see why he shouldn’t run for the Guyanese presidency because “goat ain’t bite me.”
The goats bit Rohee a long time ago and “poisoned his waters” so that he cannot get a five-year or ten-year multi-entry visa from the US. It is amazing that a Minister could tell his country that goat ain’t bite him when the goats have already devoured him. But then again, we expect these comedian antics because PPP leaders are such comical personalities.
This writer has been confidentially informed that top, very top officials of the Guyana Government and their children have been denied visitor’s visa over a period of time from one of the top embassies here in Georgetown. Let me say unambiguously – my source is powerfully placed to know this. I trust my source a hundred percent and my source is the embodiment of reliability.
It was bound to happen. The venalities, perversities and immoralities of the PPP Government have upset the main embassies in Guyana the past ten years. It is the position of many former British and Canadian High Commissioners and American Ambassadors that the present cabal in power is extremely corrupt and has no interest in good governance and transparency.
It remains a mystery why, up to this day, sanctions have never been put on the regime here, given what the World Bank, IDB, and the Governments of the UK, the US and Canada know of official corruption and drug connections in Guyana.
It has to be a mystery because the deportment of the Government of Guyana’s collective body in terms of political depravities and financial abominations is public knowledge. This writer sat at a dinner table with Glenn Lall at the Pegasus Hotel and heard a high-ranking US Embassy official tell us that the stalling by the Government to have a DEA office here is completely unsatisfactory to the US Government.
There could have been a lessening of the immoralities and corruptibility years ago if certain embassies had done what they are doing now – using the denial of a visa as a method of sanction against corrupt Ministers and top Governmental officials. The Auditor-General (AG) report should see the extensive cancellations of visas.
That latest report of the AG should sicken the mind of every Guyanese citizen. Billions of dollars have been paid out, as Ms. Volda Lawrence, Chairman of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, explained, to contractors as part of an evil rendezvous in which top politicians collect their share of a conspiratorial over-payment system.
We should close this essay by reminding readers who already know and those who don’t, that a Minister and his wife twice went to the US to have their babies born there so as to make their children American citizens. Of course this couple should not be given a US visa because it is obvious they have all the intention of staying in the US.
And to think that this guy’s name is being featured as a likely PPP presidential candidate.
