… to appear in court Monday
Late yesterday afternoon, 30-year-old Adrian Mc Kenzie, who reportedly beat his mother to death with a hammer, was flown to the city.
Up to yesterday the man was still being grilled at police headquarters Eve Leary. Meanwhile, this newspaper was told that charges will be laid on the suspect who is expected in court tomorrow.
The 30-year-old Central Rupununi man ran amok on Tuesday night and reportedly beat his 62-year-old mother to death with a claw hammer, then tried to slash the throat of his 14-year-old niece who had witnessed the brutal attack on her aunt.
The victim, Ethel Andries, of Sand Creek, Central Rupununi, was cornered in her home and struck repeatedly in the face and head shortly after 20:30 hrs on Tuesday. She died minutes later.
The alleged killer attempted to flee the community but was apprehended yesterday by Village Councilors on horseback who had been searching for him since Tuesday.
He was subsequently turned over to the Lethem Police. The bloody hammer was recovered at the crime scene.
Also yesterday, Jude Joseph was also flown out to the city as a prisoner. Kaieteur News understands that on Sunday night, at Tabatinga, Central Rupununi, Jude Joseph, a resident of that area, had been drinking and was sitting near the roadside when two officials approached and accused him of “wanting” to steal a motorcycle.
One of them, despite Joseph’s protestations, then allegedly used a piece of wood to beat him. The incident was witnessed by at least one resident who subsequently gave a statement.
The man reportedly lost consciousness for several minutes and was eventually picked up and taken to the police station where he was locked up.
On Monday, a senior Superintendent of Police saw his condition and reportedly ordered him to be conveyed to the Lethem Hospital.
