President of the Alpha Football Club, Odinga Lumumba, has taken the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation to task over prize monies and related tournament conditions.
Lumumba plans to write the K&S organisation, the Guyana Football Federation and several sponsors in his effort to clarify the situation observed.
In comments to some media representatives, Lumumba informed that while he does not have a problem with the tournament being a business venture, he feels that the prize money being paid is inadequate based on the reported monies being pumped into the event by sponsors.
Citing unconfirmed reports it was disclosed that Ansa McAl has pumped in excess of $15M , GT&T in excess of $10M and DDL some $6M to the tournament and according to the Alpha Boss the other smaller sponsors ensure that adequate money is collected by the organisers allowing them to pay increased prizes. He wants the GFF and sponsors to comment on this observation. He also wants the major sponsors to disclose their involvement financial wise to ensure clarity to the entire proceedings and also to ensure the players are not exploited. Based on the contributions received, Lumumba wants the prize money to be determined.
Quizzed on what would be a adequate offering to the teams, Lumumba informed that a first prize of about $4M along with $400,000 for each team for preparation for the event would be decent. He cited the cost attached to the preparation of his team was in the vicinity of $1M and feels that clubs should have that expense offset. He noted that several clubs may not be able to secure ready sponsors to assist with that cost.
One other cause for concern highlighted by Lumumba was the involvement of too many GFF officials with the K&S organisation, pointing to it as a conflict of interest. He mentioned Aubrey Major as Organising Secretary and Franklin Wilson as Vice President to highlight his case.
Citing several scenarios the Alpha boss questioned how could the teams get a fair hearing if serving GFF officials are involved in this tournament. These will be among the concerns he will raise in his missive to the responsible organisations.
