With all systems in place, the final segment of the horseracing season begins today and the place to be is the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club, Alness Village on the Corentyne, Berbice, where that entity runs off its season ending one day horserace meet beginning at 13:00 hrs. Over 65 horses have entered and for the eight event meet which has close to $4M in cash and other incentives up for grabs.
Most of the animals are well rested and raring to go having had close to a month to recuperate and with all of the major stables also bring in new animals the race meet is expected to be a cracker, especially since the Alness Turf is noted to be the fastest in the country.
The ‘B’ Class event reads like a who is in the horse racing circle and with Banks DIH, the Pacesetters, being the proud sponsor, doling out close to $1M for the event, serving to make the event more mouth watering.
This feature event has an attractive $500,000 and the Banks DIH trophy on offer for the winner and will be run over a distance of 1700M. The B and C class events have been dominated by the Crawford, Elcock Stable combination and the question to be answered is will this continue or will the winning streak be broken today.
The two stables have champion animals such as Miss Republic, The Message, Delmur Gold, Miss Orientate, Night Crescendo and Prince Charming running and being on home turf the prospects looks difficult for their rivals. However The De Roop stable has thrown Star Tracer and On the Rock with Salt coupled with Sweet Revenge, Sir Balajee and Tropical Passion into the mix and a ding dong battle is anticipated.
Leading the charge in the co-feature 3yrs old open event for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies with a tantalizing $350,000 first prize on offer also over 1700M are Sabrina’s Princess, Peaceful, Celebration Time, Fairy Landing and Miracle Silver.
The F class event is expected to be a bomb shell with Sea Rocket, South Sea, Pixie Fire, Sir Balagie, Barack, Romantic Passion, Amy Jane, Face de Music, Pegasus Rising, Pyro Flo and Air Control all seeking to take control of the first prize worth $250,000 over 1100M.
Cash Connection, Princess Renukha, Face the Fire, JD Junior, Speed Vision, Irish Girl and Royal Salute are among those looking to collect the winning $225,000 cash for two year old horses bred and born in Guyana and West Indies over 1400M.
The G Class 1400M gallop for the $200,000 first prize and trophy on offer has the Gap and Mamzelle as the top contenders.
There is one change to the programme with the H class event being replaced with an event for K and L horses over 1400M which has a first prize of $100,000. The I3 and lower 1400M battle has a winner’s prize of $125,000.
The final event on the day’s card is for animals in the K and L class as they compete over 1400M with the pole position takings being $100,000.
Some of the other horses down to take part are Silver Kid, Miracle Silver, Bounty Flyer, Brown Boy, JD Junior, Clear Victory, Strike the Fire, Try Again and Lyana, Little Spike, Mona Lisa, Dream Girl, Funny Sided, Channel Boy, Spread the News, Another Run, Romeo and Black Boy.
There will be Trophies for the Top Jockeys, Trainers and stable compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall Bourda Market. Among some of the other major sponsors and donors are Digicel, Sankar Auto Works, Gilgeous First Choice Pawn Shop and Beharry Group of Companies.
