… hosts Chancellor’s Reception
The graduating class of 2010 of the University of Guyana were treated to the resurrection of an old University of Guyana tradition yesterday—the Chancellor’s Reception.
The event was last held during Dr. George Walcott’s tenure as Vice Chancellor of the University circa 1989. On Thursday evening, the graduands were feted at the Chancellor’s Reception at the Police Officers Mess, Eve Leary. According to Vice Chancellor of UG, Professor Lawrence Carrington, the evening presented faculty and graduating students an opportunity to celebrate the years of hard work they have been through together. It let them spend an evening together before they say their final farewells in their upcoming convocation.
Professor Compton Bourne, the current Chancellor of the University, told the students that the University was pleased to be celebrating with them again.
He promised them long speeches at the Convocation ceremony but said that Thursday evening was for them to enjoy. On Saturday afternoon, more than 1,500 students will walk across the stage at the University of Guyana to receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates.
