Shadow Minister of Finance, Mr. Winston Murray, who collapsed eight days ago, remains in the same condition, with no decision yet to detach him from the life support machine at the Georgetown Hospital.
Richard VanWest Charles, who has been campaigning for Murray to be nominated as the Presidential Candidate for the main opposition party PNCR, last evening confirmed that Murray’s health condition remains the same.
The PNCR said yesterday it is continuing to pray for Murray, a long standing member of the party.
Since the evaluation conducted by neurosurgeon, Professor Dr. Ivor Crandon, on Sunday, where it was determined that no surgical intervention could be done because of the state of his vital signs, including and no responses from his brain, Mr. Murray has remained on life support at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The PNCR has also expressed its sincere gratitude to all the doctors and medical personnel at the Georgetown Public Hospital and to Dr. Crandon for the medical care that they are continuing to provide Mr. Murray.
The National Assembly, the Government of Guyana and, all Guyanese at home and abroad have rallied in support of Mr. Murray’s medical care and recovery.
The Party will air a feature programme on the contributions of Mr. Murray in the National Assembly of the Parliament of Guyana on its next Nation Watch programme, Sunday.
Murray was rushed to the Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown after he collapsed on his way to his Continental Park, East Bank Demerara home following a Parliamentary debate two Thursdays ago.
Murray was heading home when he stopped at Houston to buy a lotto ticket.
Murray recently announced that he would be vying for the position of Presidential Candidate for the PNCR and had already commenced several community outreaches.
In January of last year, following differences with the party on their position on the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union, Murray resigned as party Chairman and subsequently challenged Corbin for the leadership of the party.
He was unsuccessful in that bid which some called a massively rigged election for party leadership during their biennial congress.
A Parliamentarian since 1985 Winston Shripal Murray attended the London School of Economics, London University BSC (Hons) Econs in 1970; he also attended the Institute of International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC where he obtained a Certificate in Public Finance, in 1975; he also attended the University of Guyana where he graduated with Credit in LLB in 1996 thence to the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago where he obtained his Legal Education Certificate in 2000.
