Jacobs’ 63rd minute strike eliminates Conquerors

A 63rd minute strike from Santos’ Kester Jacobs dashed the hopes of hosts Fruta Conquerors making it to the final of this year’s NaMilCo Football Festival as the last semi-final game was played on Wednesday evening, at the Tucville ground.
Playing in a match which had to be replayed due to a power outage that affected their original engagement, both teams looked a bit lacklustre in the first period with the wet conditions making it difficult for the players to exhibit good ball control.
Not many chances were created in that segment and the teams went to the break nil-all and spectators anticipating what will have next in the final period.
The resumption saw some improvements by both teams as Santos looked more purposeful with Jacobs and company producing frequent raids inside the Conquerors danger zone, but stout defending kept the score-line even.
However, they were eventually successful in one of their consistent forays when a powerful shot from the left side could only be partially blocked by goalkeeper Corlette, before Jacobs poaching in the area pounced on the rebound and lashed home from close range.
Even though Santos were reduced to ten players after Glenorvan Edmonds was red carded by referee Mark Younge for reckless play, they still seemed to hold the advantage and mounted many raids after then, but were unfortunate not to score.
Conquerors best chance came when they were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area, but the shot slammed onto the crossbar and rebounded into play.
That was the last real good chance the host had and Santos held on for a date in the final with Alpha United on Sunday.
