Nov 19, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
I pen my final reply to Dr. Rose Asquith (letter Kaieteur News, November 18), as I don’t wish to be his pen pal showing how his comments are propagandistic, illogical, and personality based. I still don’t know if Dr. E. Rose Asquith is a phantom name and or a real doctor or what kind of a doctor.
Asquith questions the judgment of “my petition” to the medical board to allow Dr. Persaud to practice medicine in Guyana in light of his legal problems in New York. Instead of stating the reasons why he feels Dr. Persaud should not be given “a second chance” to use his term, he attacks me and distorts my positions on issues and my polling and my reasons for why Persaud should practice under supervision. In his latest salvo against me, he cites Freddie Kissoon’s attacks on me which have been rubbished by dozens of prominent Guyanese of integrity.
Several reputed people have commented why Dr. Persaud should or shouldn’t be allowed to practice in Guyana. SN also penned an editorial why Persaud should not be licensed. I respect all the views, none of which were personality driven, except Asquith’s. Asquith targeted me, clearly suggesting he has something against me and nothing to do with Persaud. Instead of focusing on the contents of my letter or on Dr. Persaud, he subjected me to abuse deeply personalizing his comments.
His comments don’t follow logically and are discredited. Asquith brought in extraneous matters into the discussion on Persaud’s medical licence. He calls me a PPP propagandist and accuses me of fabricating polls in Trinidad. What does that have to do with whether Persaud should be allowed to practice medicine in Guyana? Then he linked me with Roger Khan and said I wrote against ex GDF Major Clarke. What does this have to do with a medical licence for Persaud? Then he said he believes Freddie Kissoon, a fierce anti-government critic, on polls – what is relationship of this to Persaud’s medical licence? There is no logic here. And these are all personal indictments of me and nothing to do with the subject matter.
Asquith charges I fabricate polls in Trinidad. Please publish any evidence in your possession! There is none just like how you came up empty when I challenged you to cite the sources accusing me with writing about Khan and Clarke. That is a fabrication, not my polls.
And please Asquith, present all the evidence of the propaganda work I have done for the PPP. There is none. This makes you an anti-Bisram propagandist!
Asquith lavished praises on Freddie Kissoon. Isn’t this the same Kissoon who claimed I was the subject of discussion at a conference at Miami University? When the
OAS Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Albert Ramdin, said no such discussion took place, Kissoon backed down. Didn’t Kissoon claim he did research and found Bisram is not a teacher anywhere in the world? When he confirmed that I have been teaching for 30 years, he became silent refusing to pen an apology.
Asquith stated that my claim on the accuracy of the Trinidad NACTA poll of July was a bogus. He can verify it in SN around July 26. The other dailies, Kaieteur News, Chronicle, Guyana Times and the Trinidad dailies, Express, Newsday, Guardian, between July 10 and 26 carried reports on the findings of the NACTA poll.
A check would show they correspond with the actual results of the elections. Asquith claims that the NACTA poll on Trinidad’s May elections were millions of miles off. His comment clearly shows he does not understand polling. The final poll, released to the media the day before the election, projected a PP victory and indicated that a landslide was not impossible though difficult. The poll found the outcome in several seats the PNM held were close, and that was the actual outcome with the PP winning eight seats in narrow victories.
That is not miles apart and as such, as Andy John noted in his commentary on the poll, it was on target. Asquith is advised to contact reputed journalist Andy Johnson (TV 6 and Express Newspaper columnist) for verification of my claim.
Everything I pen is truthful. I don’t manufacture information like others including Asquith who manufacture information about Roger Khan to discredit me. I never embellish my writings or “supplant claims” to gain public attention. It is Asquith who has manufactured information about me and distorted facts to gain public attention and now is being ridiculed for his inaccuracies.
Asquith needs to watch American TV news magazines and documentaries and read reputable newspapers to expand his knowledge. In this way, he would better understand the meaning of “guilty plea”, “cultural diversity”, and polling and he won’t have to fabricate information.
