When the curtain came down on the 2010 Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Berbice Inter-Block football competition on Sunday, Fyrish were crowned the Ancient County’s champion.
At the Scottsburg ground in Corriverton Sunday night, Fyrish brushed aside Number 51 Village 6-1 to lay hands on the Ministry of Sport trophy.
Sam Glasgow paved the way for the much deserved victory by sending in four goals. He was supported by his team’s number two marksman Marvin Bamfield who scored twice. The losing team’s lone goal came off the boot of Ron Scott.
Witnessed by Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle, the match was played under floodlights and saw Fyrish leading 2-0 at half time. It was the second stanza of the Berbice annual event which is sponsored by the Ministry of Sport. Ten teams vied for top honours.
Meanwhile, Kerwin Grenville of Liverpool, who scored ten goals, copped the highest goal scored award. Prizes will be presented next week.
