A miner was killed and four others injured on Monday at Upper Barama, after a tree fell on the pit in which they were working.
While details are sketchy, a police official said that workers were clearing the area with an excavator when an uprooted tree fell on the men, killing one of them instantly.
The body has been taken to Charity while efforts are being made to take the injured to hospital.
Police have since contacted the owner and he is assisting them with their investigations.
