NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – The Region Six Democratic Council completed its 2010 Capital Work Programme earlier this month. In light of this, additional projects were identified and are being executed with the saving from the various ventures.

The Administration purchased drainage pipes which are to be installed, within a week, in the front lands of the Manchester/Hogstye area to enhance irrigation.
Under the Road programme, some $9 million would be used on three thoroughfares. Later this week the Associated Construction Company of Hampshire Village on the Corentyne would undertake the rehabilitation of the Khaleel Street at Number Nineteen Village.
Last week, the Chris Jagdeo Construction Company began work on the access road to the Tutorial Academy. Amirude Ramcharitar Construction Company was awarded the contract to repair a cross street at John’s Village, Port Mourant.
What is left back in the Health Budget would go towards the expansion of the drug bond of the New Amsterdam Hospital. All the additional projects are expected to be completed by the first week in December.
The Regional Chairman noted that work was carried out in a timely manner thus allowing for early completion. The Office of the President through the Ministry of Finance would rehabilitate 96 community roads in all 16 neighbourhood democratic councils, New Amsterdam, Rose Hall town and Corriverton.
The tenders are already out and within one week the National Tender Board is to award the contracts.
In the proposal for the 2011 work programme, which has already been submitted to the Ministry of Finance, more emphasis would be placed on agriculture and infrastructural improvement across the Region especially on the East Bank of Berbice.
This year under the Current Expenditure, $1.6 billion was set aside for Education Delivery, $810 million on Health Services, $456 million on Agriculture, $247 million on Public Works and $88 million on Regional Administration and Finance.
