Police were last night hunting for a man who stabbed a young nurse and threw acid in her face after sneaking into the nurse’s quarters located above the Maternity Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
The victim, Ursula Hutson, was stabbed in the left eye and other parts of her face. She was also doused with a corrosive substance on her face and upper body by the suspect, who is said to be her ex-boyfriend.
When this newspaper arrived at the hospital, Hutson was being treated at the GPHC Accident and Emergency Unit.
Sources identified the suspect as Woodrow Cadogan aka “Thousand”, who is habitually seen in the GPHC compound soliciting for a well-known city funeral parlour, where he is employed as a driver.
He was previously a taxi driver who solicited passengers outside the GPHC before he commenced work at the parlour.
According to staff of the GPHC, Ursula had ended her relationship with “Thousand”, but he was very persistent and often kept visiting her at the hospital without her consent.
At the time of the incident, Ursula was in the Nurses’ Room, located on the third floor, which is just above the Maternity Ward at the GPHC.
In is unclear how “Thousand” managed to sneak into the building without being stopped.
On entering the building, the suspect stabbed Hutson repeatedly before dousing her with a corrosive substance which was concealed in a Nescafe bottle.
Eyewitnesses recalled seeing ‘Thousand’ fleeing from the compound.
At the scene, there were bloodstains on the floor and stairway leading to the Nurses’ Room, and traces of the corrosive liquid on the floor, table and door. The injured nurse’s broken spectacles, and the bottle which had contained the acid, also lay on the floor.
At press time, hospital security staff were still helping the police locate the nurse’s assailant.
