– as Everest, GCC & DCC register wins
By Sean Devers
West Indies under-19 opener Trevon Griffith (168) and Chanderpaul Hemraj (147) scored centuries while teenage left-arm spinner Totaram Bishun grabbed a 13-wicket match haul and national player Steven Jacobs took 7-35 as Everest, GCC and DCC registered victories yesterday in the Carib Beer Heroes Cup 2-day first division cricket competition in the City.
MSC’s Danny Narayan drives through the legs of silly mid-off during his half century at Bourda yesterday.
At Bourda, Malteenoes Skipper Jacobs scored 46 in both innings and took 7-35 from 12 overs in a losing cause as GCC, spearheaded by a last session hat-trick from Ricardo Jadunauth spurred GCC to a 115-run win in fading light.
At Camp Road, Hemraj hammered 148 after former Guyana youth pacer Leon Scott took 5-61 to help Everest to an emphatic innings and 25-run win against Transport Sport Club (TSC).
In the other game in the round in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) premier competition, Griffith slammed a belligerent 168 and Bishun destroyed the opposition with 5-42 and 8-45 with his left-arm unorthodox spin as host DCC crushed Police by an innings & 126 runs.
Jacobs’ got support from schoolboy leg-spinner Steven Sankar (2-13) as GCC were bowled out for 117 despite token assistance from National left-hander Vishaul Singh (24). Jadunauth, Elon and Leon Johnson were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
MSC feared even worse as they were bundled out 89 in 29.1 overs as only Jacobs (46) and Vishaul Narayan 17 offered fight. Jadunauth took 4-19 while Johnson (bowling mainly off-spin) had 3-26 and Chindanand Shivram got 2-18 for GCC who declared at 250-6 in their 2nd innings.
Former Guyana under-19 opener Jeetendra Sookdeo top scored with 86 while Jadunauth (49), Robin Bacchus (32) and Johnson (25) chipped in as Singh and Sankar took 2 wickets each.
Set 279 to win from just after Lunch, MSC fell for 164 with Narayan (56) and Jacobs (46) leading the fight. Jadunauth captured his first ever hat-trick when he removed Carlos La Rose, Jermaine Joseph and Quacy Nedd in three balls to finish with 4-35. Shivram had 2-9.
At Everest, Scott’s 5-61 and 2-23 from Abilash Dookie ensured TSC fell for 102 despite 21 from Simeion Sam. Hemraj got support from Troy Gonsalves (58) as Everest piled up 312 with Kevin Ross taking 3 wickets and Azim Azeez 2.
Set 195 to avoid an innings defeat, TSC were bowled out for 170 with Steven Alves making 87 and Carl Rambarose 22. Gonsalves captured 4 wickets.
At DCC, Police were all out for 143 with Jason Heyliger making 55 and Rawle Browne 33. Bishun got support from Chris Barnwell (2-12). DCC’s 397-6 declared was built around Griffith’s century and 76 from Andrew Lyght junior, 68 from Leroy Primo and 65 from Chris Barnwell.
Police were then dismissed for 128 in their 2nd innings as only Heyliger (24) and Cecil Adams (21) reached 20 as Bishun mesmerized the batsmen with his both-way turn.
