Dear Editor,
I am refusing to believe that there was a sinister motive behind the trench cleaning exercise that left the area behind Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s house filled with weeds, while the rest of the trench was cleared. Whoever did this malicious act should be severely sanctioned by the local authorities.
Mr. Kissoon has repeatedly lamented the amount of taxes he pays. Freddie a taxpayer and a citizen of Guyana is entitled to all the benefits the state has to offer! Therefore, the person or persons behind this ridiculous and malicious act should be disciplined.
This latest atrocity perpetuated on a bonafide citizen of Guyana is an embarrassment to the Government of Guyana. Is this democracy in action or the inaction of democracy? The rightful authorities should investigate this matter with alacrity.
The Kaieteur News headline in its Thursday 11th November, 2010 edition read: “Government spites Freddie Kissoon”. Is this really true?
Did the government have a hand to play in this blatant and unbelievable act of disrespect on a Guyanese citizen? Would the Government of our dear land of Guyana demonstrate such a meanness of spirit? I hope not.
I do not want to believe that the Guyana Government could be this petty, or so dishonourable. No member of the Government can stoop this low as to instruct a cleaning gang to avoid cleaning a trench behind the house of a Guyanese citizen. This cannot be the work of the Guyana Government.
Governments are supposed to act in such a way as to maximize the well-being of society.
They are supposed to allocate scarce resources across households and firms to ensure that social and economic well-being (includes individuals and firms) are maximized. Governments are supposed to achieve an equitable distribution of utility and profits across all households and firms.
Trench cleaning is not for friends and family of the Government. Every citizen of the Guyana is entitled to this benefit.
If by chance the Government is indeed a part of this malicious act then they would have signaled the fact they are unfit for office!
Richard Francois
