People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Shadow Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Winston Murray, CCH, MP remains in a critical but stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to a release from the GPHC, Mr. Murray is currently on respiratory life support. Murray, 69, is said to be comatose and doctors have been trying to stabilise his condition to facilitate necessary surgical intervention.
Doctors have described his present condition as critical with a poor prognosis.
The PNCR has been in consultation with a leading neurosurgeon Ivor Crandon who is Jamaica-based, and who has been advising the local medical personnel from last night and throughout the day.
That specialist is being flown into Guyana and is expected by Sunday.
Party leader Robert Corbin during a press briefing said that medical personnel and the Government are making every effort to ensure that Mr. Murray receives the best possible medical care at this time.
Mr. Corbin told media operatives that following the incident on Thursday evening President Bharrat Jagdeo and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds called him and said that they are prepared to offer whatever assistance they can to help Mr. Murray.
It was pointed out that there are several complications which Mr. Murray suffers from which are proving to be a bugbear. Mr Murray is a diabetic and was hypertensive..
Mr. Corbin reported that Mr. Murray has severe hemorrhaging in the brain and several tests have already been conducted.
Dr Richard Van-West Charles said that as of after 15:00hrs today the doctors managed to stabilize Murray’s vitals but he was still unconscious.
He said that they were working assiduously to try to get Dr Crandon in the country.
Dr Van West Charles when asked about Murray’s chances of survival, said that it was too early to pronounce on that, “we are still in the early days.”
Murray was rushed to Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown after he collapsed on his way to his Continental Park, East Bank Demerara home following Thursday’s parliamentary debate in which he participated.
He was in an unconscious condition when he arrived at the Hospital, and a scan showed that there was blood around his brain.
Murray was heading home when he stopped at Houston to buy a lotto ticket, according to his colleague and supporter, Ronald Austin.
Austin said that after he collapsed he had the presence of mind to give someone phone numbers and the keys to his car.
He also gave instructions that he be taken to Balwant Singh Hospital.
However, later in the evening, he was transferred to the GPHC where he was immediately placed in the Intensive Care Unit.
