The various principals strike poses shortly after signing the contracts to formalize this month end ProAm boxing card.
The exciting fights in the ProAm boxing extravaganza continues on Friday November 26 with a sizzling card that promises much action and excitement when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport (MCYS), the National Communication Network (NCN) and the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) presents the 10th edition of what has now become an eagerly awaited affair.
Fans would remember the sensational two minutes knockout registered by Troy Lewis over Rudolph Fraser in an earlier edition of the programme. That record held up for about three months until Simeon Hardy faced Patrick Boston and disposed of him in just twenty electrifying seconds. Naturally, Lewis became upset that his record no longer exists and has issued a call for the man that had dared to wipe off his achievement from the record books.
The executive of the GBBC has decided to call Lewis’ bluff and matched the two pugilists in a junior middleweight bout that will headline this month’s edition of the card. Yesterday afternoon, at the Avenue of the Republic office of Abdool and Abdool, the respective boxers convened and scrawled their signatures on the contract, consummating the formalities for the 4 bout professional card.
The other boxers present at the function were Joel McRae, just off a drawn decision against James Walcott in the last Caribbean Fury Boxing card. He will oppose Lindener, Edmond DeClou in a super middleweight contest while Pauline London will fight Kwinda Rogers in a catchweight encounter.
The card takes on an international flavour when Eversley Brown tackles Trinidadian Kurt Sinnette in a super/middleweight duel while Kurt Bess, still riding high after scoring an upset victory over local heavyweight champion Rogers, will attempt to overcome Anthony Augustin in a heavyweight showdown. Having completed the formality of signing the contracts, the boxers have opened camp at several gyms around Georgetown and its environs.
Meanwhile, the executive of the GABA has also released the list of boxers that will comprise the amateur segment of the card. Michael April will oppose Dewani Lampkin in the 80-84lbs category while Romano Clarke and David Thomas battle in the Junior/welterweight division. Junior/flyweights Moolchan Sankar and Kevin Allicock will clash in a bout that is expected to produce some fireworks while Ron Smith and Kelsie George square off in the middleweight division.
NCN Television would be carrying a live broadcast of the action while those attending the venue will be required to pay a small entrance fee of $1,000. Bell time is 20:00hrs.
