Nov 13, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
I am quite disturbed about an article which appeared in the Kaieteut News on Wednesday 10th November, 2010 captioned, “An appeal for our future generation”.
Mr. Editor, it is good when persons can share their views, but what bothers me, is the fact that such persons are not brave enough to sign their “own” names.
First of all, I am quite sure of one person who wrote that “misleading” letter. That individual has a motive that is certainly destructive.
One of the persons affected by this very upsetting article, spoke to a representative at Kaieteur News and was told that they have the name of the original author, but did not publish it because he/she asked to remain anonymous.
What amazes me is that Kaieteur News published the letter without first seeking to confirm any of the issues raised with any of the “so-called” signatories concerned. Moreover, the letter began with and I quote, “We the undersigned”, and eight names appeared at the end of it. Is this representative at KN for real? There is an anonymous writer, yet eight names appeared as signatories!
The second issue that was raised by the author concerns two teachers who are presently attending the University of Guyana. It is a blatant lie that these teachers ‘attend school when they feel like’. They have a time table to attend classes at UG and that is what they work with. These teachers are always modestly dressed for work when they are not at UG!
Anyway, I am presently considering legal actions against Kaieteur News because they should have known better, and I am implicated in something I have no knowledge of. My colleagues (those who were also implicated in this matter) and I are now viewed in a negative light by the other members of staff. This is absolutely disgusting!
In the future, Kaieteur News should be more careful as to what they print and a special appeal to all writers out there, be brave and print your own names ‘big and bold’, instead of hiding cowardly behind other people’s names!
