Dear Editor,
The photograph of the uncleared portion of the canal in front of the home of Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s home, on the front page of the November 11, 2010 of the Kaieteur News, indicates clearly that this was a deliberate act. It smacks of puerile behaviour.
Minister Benn, in attempting to justify the unjustifiable, simply lowers his estimation in the eyes of citizens. Certainly the officials in charge of the work would have known what a furore this incident would create and, even if it was closing time for workers, they should have been asked to give the extra effort to clear this remaining piece.
I wonder if the authorities do not realise that by singling out Mr. Kissoon for such treatment, they are contributing to raising rather than lowering his stature.
This man is a Guyanese citizen, a taxpayer with rights as any other citizen.
One can disagree with his views, but he should not be singled out for discriminatory treatment.
After all, Guyana is considered a democracy, and in a democracy people are free to express their views as long as they are within the law.
It is time that those in charge of running the country start acting like adults.
