-Tasher blazes field for new 200m record
Rupununi’s Doretta Wilson defeated double CARIFTA Games gold medallist, Jevina Straker for the second time in the 2010 National Schools’ Championships yesterday and Ashley Tasher sent tongues wagging after a fiery 200m that set a new record.
Wilson broke from Straker on the bell-lap and that was it for Straker, who tried her best to catch the athlete that had beaten her Tuesday morning in the 10km Road Race. Wilson now has two up on Straker from three battles in the Schools’ Championships.
The District Nine athlete completed the race in 5:09.3 with Straker behind on 5:10.4. Potaro’s, Clothilda Thomas was third in 5:33.1. It was one of the highlights of last evening; the other was Tasher’s phenomenal performance in the U-14 Girls’ 200m.
Tasher ran 25.9 seconds, which was faster than the U-16, U-18 and U-20 times, leading the field for 20m to set a new record in the event. Her time will replace the 2007 Letitia Myles and 2009 Deja Smartt joint U-14 Girls’ 200m schools’ record.

second while West Demerara’s Carl Tudor was third in 23.3 seconds.
Upper Demerara’s, Keyandra Zephyr won the U-18 Girls’ 200m from Natasha Joseph and rival, Letitia Myles in 26.7 seconds; Joseph ran 26.9 seconds for second while Myles completed had a time of 27.4 seconds. Myles had won the 100m contest.
